MARC RIBOUD
(1923 – 2016)
1943 beteiligte sich Marc Riboud (*1923 in Lyon) an der Résistance und an den Kampfhandlungen der Maquis (Partisanengruppe). 1945 begann er sein Ingenieurstudium an der Ecole Centrale de Lyon, welches er nach drei Jahren erfolgreich abschloss. Im Jahr 1952 gibt er seinen Beruf als Ingenieur auf und widmet sich ausschließlich der Photographie.
Er lässt sich in Paris nieder und trifft Henri Cartier-Bresson und Robert Capa, die ihn dazu bewegen, sich der Agentur Magnum anzuschließen. Die erste Veröffentlichung im Magazin ‚Life’ erfolgt mit dem berühmten Foto des Anstreichers im Eiffelturm. 1955 bereist er für zwei Jahre Indien und China.
1959 wird er zum Vizepräsident der Agentur Magnum ernannt (er bleibt bis 1973 in dieser Position). In den Jahren von 1960-1974 entstehen zahlreiche Photoreportagen weltweit. So ist Riboud unter anderem beim Unabhängigkeitskrieg in Algerien und Schwarzafrika dabei oder Fotografiert im Krieg zwischen Nord-und Südvietnam – wo er auch Horst Faas trifft. 1975/76 ist er Präsident der Fotoagentur Magnum. in den Jahren von 1980-1998 bereist Riboud Tibet, Kambodscha und Zentralasien. Er fotografiert in China nach der Öffnung und die Angkor-Tempel sowie vieles andere mehr.
Marc Riboud lebte und arbeitete in Paris.

Marc Riboud (born 1923 in Lyon)
1923 born in Lyon, France 1943 participating at the Résistance and hostilities of the Maquis (guerrillas) 1945 he started his studies of engineer at the Ecole centrale de Lyon, which he finished after three years 1952 he gave up his profession and attended to photography.
He settled down in Paris, where he met Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, who persuade Riboud to join Magnum. The first publication on LIFE-Cover was his photo of the painter on the Eiffeltower 1955 he visits for two years India and China 1959 Vice President of Magnum until 1973 1960-74 reportages worldwide inter alia war of Algeria and Black Africa, North and South Vietnam 1975/76 President of Magnum 1980-98 he visits Tibet, Kambodscha, Central Asia, China after the opening, Angkor-temples.
With the photographies by Marc Riboud the show ‚50 years of photography’ celebrates the amazing variety of people, as well the resemblances – the capability to discover their equalities in their differences and to make them visible. Marc Riboud lives and works currently in Paris
